Württemberg- and Ahr region heading winner-list
The chronological sequence made it possible to include some 80 Ahr wines on offer directly in the finals at the beginning of September in Geisenheim, where five companies stood out and other producers were able to shine with high ratings:
The wineries Meyer-Näkel from Dernau won in the "royal class" Pinot Noir and Kreuzberg from the same place in the category of "German Classics" with Pinot Noir.
The Deutzerhof from Mayschoss was pleased about a second place, also with Frühburgunder, while the Kriechel winery from Ahrweiler came in second with Portugieser and the house Jean Stodden in Rech was very satisfied with a third place for a Pinot Noir out of over 200 wines in the final . And because Meike and Dörte Näkel repeated their pinot victory from last year and finished third with another Pinot Noir, the special award "Red Giant" was renamed this time to "Red Giant Women", writes Rudolf Knoll, the initiator of the red wine award.
The strength of the Württemberger was rounded off with another award for the "Newcomer of the Year". The unknown winery Seybold from Lauffen surprised with five wines on offer, all of which were in the final. The Swabian winner flag hoisted from Württemberg as well as the wineries Notz from Sachsenheim (Lemberger), Schwegler from Korb (Cuvées) and the wine factory Untertürkheim (international varieties, with a Syrah).
The list of winners also includes the von Winning winery from Deidesheim in the Palatinate (on the same level as Meyer-Näkel for Pinot Noir), the Langenwalter winery from Weisenheim am Sand as another Palatinate with Portugieser, the Plag winery from Kürnbach in Baden (on the same level for cuvées with Schwegler) , the specialist for noble sweet, Jürgen Frey from the Palatinate Essingen (ice wine) and the Neef-Emmich winery from Bermersheim (Dornfelder) in Rhineland-Hesse.
The other list of results: Michel (Baden), Hauck and Spiess (Rheinhessen), Fellbacher Weingärtner, Remstalkellerei, Staatsweingut Weinsberg, Bernhard Ellwanger, Jürgen Ellwanger, Amalienhof, Weinkonvent Dürrenzimmern (all Württemberg), Matthias Gaul (Pfalz) and - as the only producer from the German wine east - Gussek (Saale-Unstrut).
