Premiere for Generation Riesling Wines at DFB Cup final

11.05.2022

At the DFB Cup final on May 21, guests in the hospitality areas of the Berlin Olympic Stadium can again look forward to selected fine wines from the 13 German wine-growing regions.

A novelty this year is the relaxed lounge concept with winemakers from the so called Generation Riesling. Meet these thriving young 'Wines of Germany' representatives in the newly designed VIP Lounge either at the Foyer North, or - for a younger audience - on the opposite stand. Katharina Geißendörfer from the Franconian (Franken, Bavaria) Winzerhof Geißendörfer and Fritz Steitz from Weinhof Steitz in the Rheinhessen and Nahe region will personally serve their wines and be available to answer any questions.

"Football-Village" at Gate West and VIP-Area South Stand

As usual, football guests can enjoy wine in the "Football Village" on the Maifeld at the west gate of the stadium and in the VIP area of the south stand, where sommelier Arno Steguweit and his team present the best wines from German cellars at the wine bar. They are also available on May 28th in the Cologne stadium lounges when the women choose their DFB Cup winners.

The German Wine Institute cooperates with German Football Association DFB

All this is made possible by the cooperation between the German Football Association (DFB) and the German Wine Institute (DWI), which has existed since 2006. Within this framework, the DWI carries out a nationwide tender for the wines every two years and then organizes the hidden tasting for the wine selection by an independent jury.

The cooperation also includes serving wine at all games of the women's and men's national teams as well as the U21s within Germany.
