The flowering of the vines in warmer locations and early-flowering grape varieties has already ended, but in cooler regions and locations it will continue for a few days.

Harvest expected for early September

Overall, this year the vines started flowering about a week earlier than the long-term average. Experience has shown that the grapes are ready for harvest around 90 to 100 days after flowering. For the 2022 vintage, the start of the main harvest can be expected in early to mid-September. However, the first early-ripening grapes for the Federweißen production (partly fermented "new wine") will certainly be harvested as early as the end of August.

The winegrowers follow the blossoming of the vines with great excitement every year. If it runs without problems like this year, you can hope for a good harvest. Cool temperatures during the flowering phase result in less fruit set and correspondingly reduced yields.

A mix of sun and rain would be ideal

For the time leading up to the harvest, the winegrowers wish for many sunny and not too hot days, but also phases with extensive land rain, because the water reservoirs in the deeper layers of the soil have been pretty much used up due to the drought of recent years.
