30 Outstanding Vinotheks awarded
30 award winners from nine German wine growing regions received the certificates from the newly elected German Wine Queen Sina Erdrich and DWI Managing Director Monika Reule at a festive award ceremony.
The DWI organized this competition for the second time after 2016. “We want to take into account the great commitment of our wine producers, who have significantly revitalized the German vinothek landscape in recent years with numerous impressive new buildings or through the creative redesign of traditional wine architecture", DWI Managing Director Monika Reule explained. “With the special atmosphere of their stylish vinotheks, the wine producers contribute to a living wine culture and offer additional incentives for visiting the German wine regions and tasting typical regional wines”, Reule said.
Architecturally coherent overall picture
A jury of experts selected the award-winning vinotheks from 144 applications based on stringent quality criteria. In addition to an architecturally coherent overall picture and a modern, high-quality interior design, this also included aspects such as opening times, seating, appealing product presentations, an attractive website or further information about the region and tourist offers. Moreover, the professional competence and foreign language skills of the employees were further important decision-making criteria.
As a member of the jury, Andreas Braun, Managing Director of Tourismus Marketing GmbH Baden-Württemberg, emphasized the importance of modern vinotheks from a touristic point of view: “Special vinotheks create special wine experiences. They motivate guests to return to the wine regions and thus contribute to a sustainable tourism", the tourism expert said.
As the juror Eva Holdenried from “stereoraum Architekten” explained, the award-winning vinotheks also reflect the new architectural diversity in the German wine scene. The interior designer emphasized: “If the architecturally newly created ensemble of a vinothek is in harmony with the philosophy of the winery, this creates an optimal atmosphere for enjoying wine."
All 30 awarded vinotheks are presented in detail in the MERIAN magazine Extra “Weingenuss in Deutschland”, which will be available from 30 September in nationwide magazine stores. Editor-in-chief Hansjörg Falz comes to the conclusion: "The vinotheks of German winemakers are worth a visit."
The portraits of all award winners will also be presented in videos on the DWI website and in the social media channels as videos on the DWI's YouTube channel.
