18. Decanter World Wine Awards: Record year for German wines
Amoung Top 50 wine of the competition - 97 out of 100 possible points
The jury suspected this because a Chardonnay from Baden and a Pinot Noir from the Ahr made it into the top 50 wines of the competition. Both German top 50 wines received 97 out of 100 possible points, Devonschiefer R Reserve Spätburgunder 2018 (Pinot Noir) vom Weingut Kreuzberg (Ahr) und Schlossberg Staufen Chardonnay 2018 vom Weingut Fritz Wassmer (Baden).
Five other German wines were also awarded 97 points and were awarded platinum. This success is mainly due to Rieslings:

Weingut Hans Wirsching Iphöfer Julius-Echter-Berg Rieslaner Trockenbeerenauslese 2018 (Franken)
Hans Wirsching Iphöfer Julius-Echter-Berg Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese 2019 (Franken)
Weingut Korrell Paradies Riesling Beerenauslese 2019 (Nahe).
Gold medals: August Eser Doosberg Riesling Trocken GG 2019 (Rheingau, 96 Punkte),
Maibachfarm Glanzstück Spätburgunder 2018 (Ahr, 95 Punkte) und
Staatlicher Hofkeller Würzburg Würzburger Stein Riesling GG 2019 (Franken, 95 Punkte).
Decanter awarded a further 79 German wines with a silver medal and 32 wines with a bronze medal.
