Leading experts and producers explored the versatility of Rieslings from around the world at Chateau Ste. Michelle in Washington State. The 3-day event was co-starred by Ernst Loosen of Germany's renowned Dr. Loosen estate. Wine Journalist Stuart Pigott as well as Steffen Schindler, Director Marketing of the German Wine Institute, co-moderated the sold out event.
 

The European Union and "Wines of Germany" presented top European Rieslings at the "Destination Riesling" booths at the 28th annual Food & WineClassic in Aspen, Colorado from June 18-20. The event catered to a targeted group of 5,000 wine enthusiasts and VIP members of the trade and media industry as well as reknowned chefs.
 

No fewer than 606 times were German wines of the 2008 vintage awarded 90+ points in Robert Parker?s current vintage appraisal in his newsletter Wine Advocate. A 2008 Scharzhofberger Riesling Auslese Goldkapsel from Weingut Egon Müller-Scharzhof (Saar Valley of the Mosel region) even fetched 98 of a possible 100 points, possibly elevating it to cult status.
 

German wine producers emerged as one of the big winners in this year's International Wine & Spirits Competition as the Northern Hemisphere results were announced today at the London International Wine Fair. German wines won a total of 21 gold medals in this year's Competition, with 18 receiving the top honour of Gold (Best in Class), up from a total of 12 gold medals in 2009.
 

The "Generation Riesling" press trip (April 28nd to May 2nd 2010) helped international journalists to grasp the visionary thinking of young German wine-makers. The San Francisco tasting was held at the Westin St. Francis on May 11th and featured 28 tables of German wines, representing over 40 German producers. On May 13th, the tour continued in New York City with 47 tables of German wines, representing over 50 German producers. The large walk-around tasting in San Francisco was very well received by over 180 trade and media guests.
 

Wines of Germany is returning to the London International Wine Fair (LIWF), in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection, with a bigger and better stand than ever before. The Riesling & Co Room, which boasts a 60% increase in size, will be located in the new central stand space L20.
 

Sonja Christ, a 25-year-old MBA graduate and wine-grower's daughter from Oberfell (between Koblenz and Cochem on the Mosel), took top place in an exciting finale with five competitors in the election of the German Wine Queen in 2009. The petite blond from the Mosel, who is currently responsible for the organization and logistics of wine reviews for a German wine magazine, is extremely wine knowledgeable, articulate, and charming in manner. She will be the ambassador of German wine-growers and their products in the course of some 250 appearances in Germany and abroad during the coming year.

The German Wine Institute/Mainz and Lufthansa have agreed to a long-term, strategic partnership. The goal is to foster a greater appreciation of quality wines "made in Germany" among the premium airline's clientele.
 

At this time, harvesting has already started here and there, but as the main harvest really begins to get underway, German wine-growers are optimistic about a good vintage in 2009. Physiologically, the crop is well ripened and in a nearly optimal state of health thanks to outstanding weather in late summer.
