Icewine at last

Unlike 2010, this winter seemed to be passing without noticeable winter temperatures, snow or frost. And with the temperatures coming no way near the necessary – 7 °C (~ 19 ° F), time was already running out for the famous German Icewines.

Joined Marketing Forces launch "Discover the taste of Germany"

A unique cooperation agreement has been made between the German National Tourism Board (GNTB) and the German Wine Institute (GWI) for the promotion of wine, culture, and enjoyment in Germany. Campaign milestones were introduced on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 in Great Wine Capital Mainz.

German Wine Institute presents regional wines at ProWein 2012

This year the German Wine Institute (DWI) will attend ProWein, the international trade fair for wines and spirits, using the slogan "Discover the Taste of our Regions". The regional focus was chosen due to the emphasis the German Tourism Board DZT) wants to place on "Wine Culture and Nature" in order to advertise Germany’s wine regions as key tourist destinations in 2012.

Un millésime 2011 exceptionnel en Allemagne

Les viticulteurs allemands sont extrêmement satisfaits de l'excellente récolte de 2011. Dans pratiquement toutes les régions, le volume vendangé a été largement suffisant. Top positions for German Pinot Noir amoung the world's leading wines

German Pinot Noir came up trumps at a recent International Pinot Noir tasting, with seven of the judges’ top 10 wines coming from Germany. The blind tasting, which was judged by a world-class panel of wine experts including Jancis Robinson MW, Xavier Rousset MS and Peter McCombie MW, was organised by the German Wine Institute and chaired by Tim Atkin MW.

Annika Strebel is the 63rd German Wine Queen

The new Wine Queen was simply overwhelmed. "I just can't believe it", said Annika Strebel. The 23-year-old student of viticulture from the village of Wintersheim in Rheinhessen is the 63rd German Wine Queen. She is the first German Wine Queen to hail from the largest German wine growing region since 1999.

Consolidation in German Viticulture

The structural change in the German wine branch is gaining momentum. From 1999 to 2009, the number of small wine growers with less than five hectares of vineyard area has decreased by approximately 20,000 growers or about 30%. The consolidation in the previous 10 years has been only half as great. This year there were 48,009 practicing growers. These are the results announced by the German Wine Institute (GWI) based on a survey from the Federal Bureau for Statistics.
 

German Vintners bet on Riesling and Pinot Blanc

Pinot Blanc (Weissburgunder) was the wine grape variety with the greatest vineyard area increase in Germany this last year. It increased by 240 hectares or 5.6% over last year to achieve 3,914 hectares. Pinot Blanc was followed by Riesling which experienced an increase of 146 hectares to reach a total of 22,580 vineyard hectares.

Die Deutsche Landwirtschafts-Gesellschaft hat auf ihrer Sieger-Gala in Heilbronn die besten deutschen Winzer, Weine und Sekte ausgezeichnet. Insgesamt bewerteten die Weinexperten der DLG in diesem Jahr 5.300 Weine und Sekte von rund 380 Winzerbetrieben Deutschlands.
 

Récolte 2010 - petite mais de qualité

Tout indique que les producteurs de vins allemands vont produire leur plus petite récolte depuis 25 ans cette anneé. D'après les dernieres estimations de l"Institut du Vin Allemand (DWI), seuls sept millions d'hectolitres de moût seront récoltés en 2010, soit un quart de moins que l'année dernière. Personne ne devrait faire beaucoup mieux dans le reste de l'Europe. D'après les prévisions, avec 165,5 millions d'hectolitres, cette récolte se situe six pour cent en dessous de la moyenne de ces cinq dernières années.

Le mardi 14 septembre, 28 producteurs de vins venus de différentes régions viticoles se sont une fois de plus réunis pour ce qui devait être la plus grande dégustation de vins allemands de l'année en Belgique. La dégustation avait lieu cette année a l'Atelier Yves Mattagne.
 

"Goldrush" for Germany's white wines

German wine producers emerged as one of the big winners in this year's International Wine & Spirits Competition as the Northern Hemisphere results were announced today at the London International Wine Fair. German wines won a total of 21 gold medals in this year's Competition, with 18 receiving the top honour of Gold (Best in Class), up from a total of 12 gold medals in 2009.
